Aam Aadmi Party Alleges Conspiracy to Deny Medical Care to Arvind Kejriwal

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised serious concerns on Saturday, alleging a conspiracy aimed at the gradual deterioration of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health while he is incarcerated in Tihar jail. Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes, has been seeking access to insulin and consultations with his doctor, but these requests have allegedly been denied by the jail administration.

During a press conference, AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted Kejriwal’s blood sugar readings and stated, “I want to say with full responsibility that a conspiracy is underway for the slow death of Kejriwal.” Bharadwaj criticized the Tihar administration, as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Centre, and Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G), for their alleged role in denying necessary medical care to Kejriwal.

Emphasizing Kejriwal’s longstanding battle with diabetes spanning over two decades, Bharadwaj expressed concern over the potential health risks associated with denying insulin to the Chief Minister. He stressed that proper medical treatment is crucial to prevent damage to vital organs in diabetic patients.

The AAP’s accusations come in the context of a legal battle, with the court granting Kejriwal permission to monitor his blood sugar levels using a machine while in jail. However, the denial of insulin and medical consultations has raised alarm bells within the AAP, leading to assertions of a deliberate effort to jeopardize Kejriwal’s health.

Meanwhile, Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, denounced the alleged withholding of insulin as “shocking” and “alarming.” The AAP has refuted claims by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal consumed high-sugar foods deliberately, contending that his diet was in accordance with medical advice.

The court is set to deliver its verdict on Monday regarding Kejriwal’s plea seeking permission for daily consultations with a doctor. The ongoing saga underscores the tension between political adversaries and the pressing need for ensuring adequate medical care for individuals in custody, especially those with pre-existing health conditions.
